The Opportunity: Your Next Adventure Awaits?
Quantitative and Financial Risk consultants help financial institutions identify and measure risk exposures, but also ensure that the organizations are well-equipped to pursue risky, yet profitable opportunities by linking risk to pricing. Beyond regulatory driven risk activities (IRB, IC/LAAP, Recovery planning, IFRS 9 ..), they have become equal and necessary partners of the business and their working environment. For example, they play a key role along the entire lending life cycle, identifying and quantifying risk using big data and advanced analytics. We are looking for young graduates who are motivated to operate on this cross-road of technology, modeling and regulation, not afraid to use their interpersonal skills in order to solve our clients’ risk management challenges and enable better risk management.
As a Quantitative and Financial Risk Intern, you will help our clients in the following domains:
- Quantitative modeling (market risk, valuation, credit risk), including the link with accounting (e.g. IFRS 9) and advanced analytics techniques;
- The broad regulatory agenda (Solvency II, Basel III and the SSM world, MIFID & the Consumer Protection agenda, ICAAP/ILAAP, recovery planning, …), and its operational impact;
- Qualitative aspects of risk management (ERM, Model Risk Management, governance, policies, reporting);
- Trusted AI and Fairness in algorithmic decision making.
Your Key Responsibilities
- You use EY tools & models for valuation of financial instruments, in order to provide support to our colleagues from Assurance (this can range from very simple to the most complex instruments, depending on your appetite);
- You participate to model validation exercises, which span all risk drivers (e.g. market & credit risk) and all model types (e.g. pricing models, risk models, internal models for capital requirements calculations);
- You develop a risk appetite report;
- You identify and analyze the risk in an operational process;
- You use machine learning as a new tool for risk identification, including in the data themselves;
- You act as a first-line contact for a variety of top-class financial services clients and maintain an excellent relationship with our clients.
Your Profile
You have/are:
- A last-year student in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Risk, Economics, Accounting, or a related field;
- An internship agreement from your school;
- A solid level of French and/or Dutch with an excellent knowledge of business English;
- Team spirit, balanced by a healthy sense of autonomy;
- Strong affinity with numbers, paired with the ability to see the broader picture behind the numbers in the wider regulatory and economic context of the financial sector;
- Experience in any of the following software development environments: VBA / Java / C++ / SQL / R / Matlab / .NET / Python or data visualization tools such as Spotfire or Tableau is an asset;
- Available to start in September 2025.
